Facade Design of Tamachi Square
Creating the Fluctuation of Waves
The business district of Tamachi once faced the sea and was a place that contributed to the town’s development as a fishing and trading port. We reinterpreted the shimmering seascape lost to time and designed this 35-year-old office renovation. Just as the sun reflects off the waves and makes them shimmer, the combination of different materials creates a deep expression.
For the facade panels, the motif of reflections is a combination of metal mesh and glass using a musical algorithm. For the entrance wall, the motif is depth, and using the same algorithm, transparent porcelain tiles are combined with gradient ceramic tiles to create a shimmering expression. By reflecting the ever-changing cityscape and people’s activities, we believe we have created a deep sense of fluctuation in this place.
